At its pavilion, the Group will host “Asyad’s Sustainability Talks”, a curated series of high-level fireside chats, panel discussions and key notes focused on clean mobility, low-carbon logistics, and regional integration. These sessions brought together senior government officials, including H.E. Eng. Khamis Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, alongside international experts and thought leaders.
The main session featured during the week was “Oman’s Green Transport Ambitions”, that saw the participation of H.E. the Undersecretary for Transport who highlighted the goals of Oman Vision 2040 in the national transition toward low-carbon transport systems, including green mobility, public transport infrastructure development, and emissions reduction across the maritime and aviation sectors.
Moreover, the session “Can Oman Become the Hydrogen Heart of the Region?”, where Reggy Vermeulen, CEO of Port of Duqm, presented Oman’s long-term strategy for transitioning to green hydrogen, along with the role of international partnerships in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable industries in free zones.
Another high-level panel will also include Petra Schwager, Chief Climate and Technology Partnerships at the UNIDO, titled “Powering Progress: Clean Tech & Climate Partnerships for a Greener Tomorrow”, who will shed light on the implications of global carbon reporting standards (ISSB, CBAM, TCFD) for industries and the financial sector within the Sultanate of Oman. Also, the session “Driving Sustainability: Advancing Logistics Innovations and Fostering Regional Collaboration” will tackle the major challenges facing the logistics sector and explore potential approaches to addressing them, featuring perspectives from Ahmed Tabouk, General Manager of Commercial Affairs Development at Port of Salalah, and AlMukhtar AlSaifi from SOHAR Port and freezone
ASYAD’s efforts to assess clean marine fuel alternatives, such as green ammonia and methanol—in support of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s goal to cut global maritime emissions by 50% by 2050, will be explored in the “Green Bunkering Molecules” session, in addition to the main conference session titled “Driving Emissions Reduction: The Future of Clean Mobility and Sustainable Logistics”, which will be moderated by Essam Al Sheibany. This session will delve into the outlook of clean transport and sustainable supply chains, featuring insights from a panel of globally recognized specialists
Sailing Towards a Sustainable Maritime Future
During the course of the week, Asyad Shipping will highlight its innovative Sohar Max vessel, equipped with five massive rotor sails. These rotor sails, each standing 35 meters tall and 5 meters in diameter, utilize the Magnus effect to significantly reduce fuel consumption by up to 6% and cut carbon emissions by 3,000 tons annually. This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, reinforcing Asyad's commitment to sustainable logistics and positioning the company as a leader in green maritime innovation.
Hydrogen Mobility in Action
In a practical demonstration of Asyad’s commitment to sustainable transport, Mwasalat, the national public transport operator, deployed hydrogen-powered vehicles to shuttle guests and delegates to and from the venue, marking a real-world application of clean energy in public mobility and raising awareness of green transport solutions in Oman.
