A growing number of Oman’s metallurgical projects currently depend on Asyad’s modern vessels to either freight in their raw materials and ship out their refined products and finished goods. For example, Asyad handles all of Sohar Aluminium bauxite imports from Australia under a long term contract involving the use of two of its Supramax vessels, namely ‘Jewel of Shinas’ and ‘Jewel of Sohar’.
Likewise, Asyad’s four VLOCs (Very Large Ore Carriers) are dedicated to carry 100 per cent of Vale Oman’s iron ore imports, amounting to 9.9 million tons per year, from Brazil to Sohar under a long-term contract. These VLOCs are the largest of their kind in the world, and attest to Asyad’s long-term vision to support the nation’s dry bulk transportation requirements.
