Port Suwaiq’s strategic location, situated between Muscat and Sohar, makes it ideal for global logistics customers seeking rapid access to Oman and the wider region. Since taking over management of commercial activities at the port on the 1st September 2019, Asyad has embarked on a major expansion of berthing capacity, reorganised onshore facilities and created a new master plan for the development of port land.
With nearly 300 meters of berthing capacity, Port Suwaiq is able to accommodate any ship with a draft of -5 meters or less.
Port Suwaiq handled over 375,000 freight tons of cargo in the first nine months of 2019 alone , and regularly accommodates international shipping customers . The port also plays an important role in local trade, providing vital import and export services for the Sultanate’s businesses and manufacturers.
One of Asyad ’s goals at Port Suwaiq is to enlarge operations by adding an additional berth of 160-meters as well as new, expanded port facilities . Port Suwaiq will also be integrated with the Khazeen Dry Port project, which will take advantage of the port’s close proximity and modern infrastructure.
