Asyad Group, represented by its shipping arm Asyad Shipping, cohosted the Informal Tanker Operators’ Safety Forum’s (ITOSF) 164th meeting, alongside NYK Group, on February 22 and 23 at the Kempinski Hotel, Muscat. The forum, established in early 1970s, brings together more than 70 tanker management companies from around the world to discuss the latest trends and share experiences in tanker safety.
Asyad Shipping cohosted the first ITOSF meeting held in Oman, reaffirming its status as a leading maritime player committed to crew safety and well-being and the use of cutting-edge tanker safety technologies. The international forum was also an opportunity to connect with stakeholders and industry experts and an ideal global platform for Asyad Shipping to share its knowledge and expertise in tanker safety.
Covering a host of topics, the 164th ITOSF meeting welcomed non-member safety experts from different companies to present emerging trends and share insights on best practices in tanker safety. Attendees had the unique opportunity to take part in several sessions on safety-related issues, including a session on safety measures during maintenance and drydock presented by Asyad Drydock’s Head of HSE. Other speakers presented sessions on the latest developments and topics, such as cybersecurity, TMSA, SIRE 2.0 and risk management.
“Having ITOSF meeting in Muscat reflects our unwavering commitment to crew safety and well-being as a top priority which is aligned with the people-first culture adopted across Asyad Group,” said Khalil Al Balushi, Vice President Marine at Asyad Shipping. “As a key player responsible for setting HSSE benchmarks and identifying industry-changing practices, we seize this opportunity to share valuable experiences and lessons on safety with fellow industry experts and shape a safer more sustainable future for the maritime industry.”
Speaking on the location of the 164th meeting, Ko Ko Naing, Chairman of ITOSF said: “It was a pleasure to hold the ITOSF meeting in Oman for the first time. The country’s growing reputation as a logistics hub made it an ideal destination for us to discuss tanker safety, an issue we feel is imperative to the efficient flow of global trade. We are grateful to Asyad Shipping and NYK Group for hosting the meeting and look forward to further collaboration.”
